Welcome Educators!

The 2023 General Assembly appropriated $100,000 from the general fund for the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) to support public high school teachers completing college coursework to become credentialed for dual enrollment courses. Specifically, this Dual Enrollment Instructor Grant, modeled after the successful Dual Enrollment Tuition Grant managed by the Virginia Department of Education, is designed to offer recruitment incentives to teachers and/or to provide continuing education support for teachers interested in teaching a dual enrollment course.

How It Works

Teachers may apply in conjunction with their school principal’s office. Program funds may be used to provide a grant to pay for tuition, fees or books (book allowance calculated by SCHEV) and/or a course completion bonus.

Teachers and their principals may request reimbursement for tuition, fees and books for courses scheduled during 2023-24 academic year. Efforts will be made to provide funding for each individual school district, based on received applications.

If approved, SCHEV will disburse tuition, fee and book allowance funds to the teacher’s student account at the institution upon verification of enrollment. Payments will cover only costs not otherwise covered by grants, scholarships or employer tuition reimbursement programs. It is not guaranteed that funds will be disbursed by the beginning of the term or prior to purchase of books or equal the actual cost of books purchased. The bonus, if approved, will be based on available funds, and disbursed through the instructor’s payroll process. No funds are guaranteed until approved by SCHEV.

Application, Deadlines and Contact Information

In order to be considered for selection, teachers, with their school principal, should complete the Dual Enrollment Instructor Grant Application and submit it to AbbieHandford@schev.edu, with the Subject Line of DUAL ENROLLMENT GRANT. Please note: The applications for fall, spring or summer awards must be received by SCHEV, no later than 4 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) January 19, 2024. Late applications will be accepted until May 15, 2024, but approval is subject to available funds.
