RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold its regularly scheduled meeting May 13-14 at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, including a joint meeting with leaders of Virginia’s private, nonprofit colleges and universities.
Council committees -- Academic Affairs; Resources and Planning -- will meet May 13 at 1:00 p.m. on the Bridgewater College campus. Items for Council action include certifications of private postsecondary institutions, ratification of an emergency action by staff and updates to regulations and guidelines.
In addition, Council will discuss its criteria for approving proposed degree programs as well as national trends in student enrollment. Council will be updated on the FAFSA rollout, the higher education budget for 2024-25, standards of institutional performance and the process for public institutions’ six-year plan updates.
At 3:00 p.m., Council will hold a joint meeting with the Private College Advisory Board, which includes presidents of most of the Commonwealth’s private, not-for-profit colleges and universities.
The full Council will convene for its regular meeting at 9:00 a.m. on May 14. David Bushman, Bridgewater College president, will present remarks. Council will receive reports from the Virtual Library of Virginia and the Cardinal Education program in graduate Engineering. In addition, Council will be updated on staff efforts related to Executive Order 30, Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership, GEAR UP and Level Up Virginia.
