ADVISORY: Council to meet March 18-19, 2024

RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold its regularly scheduled meeting March 18-19 at George Mason University (GMU) in Fairfax County.

Council committees -- Academic Affairs; Resources and Planning -- will meet at 2:00 p.m. in GMU’s Merten Hall on March 18. Action will be taken on public institutions’ proposed degree programs and proposed education-licensure degree programs in shortage areas. Council will review public institutions’ announcements of potential future degree programs. In addition, Council will discuss proposed funding for higher education from the 2024 General Assembly and will receive updates on Transfer Virginia, as well as staff activities and projects.

The full Council will convene for its regular meeting in Merten Hall at 9:00 a.m. on March 19. Gregory Washington, president of GMU, will deliver remarks. Council will discuss with representatives of its Student Advisory Committee (SAC) the issues that SAC members report as most critical on their campuses. Also, Council will discuss potential new duties and studies/reports assigned to SCHEV from the legislative session, as well as Executive Order 30 (Artificial Intelligence in Education) from Governor Youngkin. Council will receive updates on civics education in Virginia, the rollout of the new federal financial-aid form and the search for the next SCHEV director.
