FAFSA issues cause UVA, other schools to extend admittance reply

Post Date:02/16/2024 10:30 AM

aerialcollegeview"The University of Virginia recently announced some of the students who will be joining the class of 2028, and now it has extended the deadline for those admitted first-year undergraduates to submit their reply.

UVA is not alone in offering this kind of extension, which actually stems from an issue at the federal level.

According to a release, the decision to extend the affirmative reply deadline by two weeks follows a late January statement from the U.S. Department of Education regarding the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.

That statement told higher education institutions across the country that they would not begin to get student financial aid information from FAFSA until mid-March.

This is causing delays in the creation of financial aid packages, which is an important factor for students who are picking between multiple colleges.

'We’re grateful to all the students who are thinking about joining us, and we don’t want any of them to feel that the problems with the FAFSA will keep them from doing so,' Greg Roberts, dean of admission, said. 'We hope this change in our reply deadline will relieve at least some of the anxiety students and their loved ones may be feeling,'" reports CBS 19 News.
