"Danville Community College's new president was attracted to the area for a number of reasons, but Dr. Jerry Wallace especially liked that Danville's mayor, as well as city and Pittsylvania County officials — and local industries — believe in the college's ability to improve the community.

Wallace began his first day as president of DCC on July 1 and plans to listen to those industry leaders when it comes to evaluating existing programs and exploring the possibility of new offerings.

'DCC is welcoming to our community members whether they are graduating from high school, re-entering society, upskilling to get a better job, or interested in community education programs,' said Wallace in an email.

To build on that image, Wallace plans to continue highlighting the success of DCC students and advocate for others to "Do more at Danville Community College," as well as hosting more community engagement activities that will center on bringing awareness to the college's programs and accessibility," reports Star Tribune.
