Advisory: SCHEV Council to Meet May 17-18; Includes Meeting with Private College Presidents

RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold its regularly scheduled meetings (virtually) May 17-18 that will include a joint meeting with the leaders of Virginia’s private, nonprofit colleges and universities.  

The Council’s and Resources and Planning committee will meet on Monday, May 17 beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a 30-minute discussion of base adequacy and other current funding models. The Academic Affairs committee meeting begins at 1:30 p.m.

At 3:00 p.m., Council will hold a joint meeting with the Private College Advisory Board, comprised of presidents of the private, not-for-profit colleges and universities in the Commonwealth. Barry DuVal, president and CEO of the Virginia Chamber, will discuss the Chamber’s Blueprint 2030 initiative.

On Tuesday, May 18, the Council meeting will include remarks on the G3 initiative from Megan Healy, chief workforce advisor to the Governor and Glenn DuBois, chancellor, Virginia Community College System; a discussion of the Office of Education Economics/Labor Market Alignment from Dr. Stephen Moret, president and CEO, Virginia Economic Development Partnership; and an update on COVID on the College Campus from Jeff McClurken, chief of staff, University of Mary Washington.

Council will take action on two new programs (two from George Mason and one from the University of Virginia). The meeting also will include an update on the Transfer Virginia/Transfer Portal and discussions of the cost and funding need study and budget planning for the 2022-24 biennial budget.
