About the Position
SCHEV is seeking a higher education professional to serve as Associate for Academic Affairs. The Associate will join a dynamic and dedicated team that is responsible for carrying out SCHEV’s responsibilities and duties related to academic policy in public higher education in Virginia. The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge of academic issues in higher education, with an emphasis on one or more of the four following areas: academic degree program evaluation; degree program productivity; education-related legislative analysis; student learning assessment. Applications must include a cover letter that addresses the applicant’s capacity to work in one or more of the four listed areas. The Associate must also have the skills and flexibility to contribute effectively when called on to support various ad hoc responsibilities in Academic Affairs, such as (but not limited to) assisting with cross-agency projects and initiatives and responding to requests and directives from the Governor and General Assembly. The Associate will be called on to support ongoing quality improvement measures related to SCHEV processes, to serve as a resource to Academic Affairs staff, and to serve as liaison to SCHEV advisory committees. The Associate for Academic Affairs must have the temperament and ability to work collaboratively with staff throughout the agency, and with representatives at institutions of higher education. SCHEV is located in Richmond, the political and cultural capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

This position is considered an exceptional position with a contractual agreement.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience demonstrating the ability to work in one or more of the following areas:

  • academic degree program evaluation;
  • degree program productivity;
  • education-related legislative analysis;
  • student learning assessment.
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to carry out tasks and assignments with close attention to detail, clarity of language, and quantitative precision.
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to make oral presentations and to draft professional written analyses, guidance documents, and correspondence.
  • Experience demonstrating knowledge, abilities, and skills using MS Office applications.

Additional Considerations

  • A work history demonstrating considerable professional work experience in a relevant role at a university, university system office, state agency, or other organization (e.g., accrediting body or federal government) whose scope of work includes the academic enterprise in higher education.
  • Experience in researching and evaluating labor market-focused research in support of evaluating alignment of industry needs and academic programs (degree level) and training.
