Barringer Brown

Charletta Barringer-Brown is a professor in the department of political science and public administration and the faculty director of general education at Virginia State University. She serves integral roles in the department, the College of Humanities and Social Science, the university and the community. A policy analyst, Dr. Barringer-Brown constantly strives to create a pathway for her students to gain the knowledge, access the tools to develop the skills necessary for success in today’s complex working, educational and political policy initiatives. She also previously served as an assistant dean, department chair and director of research at Fayetteville State University from 2004-2018. Dr. Barringer-Brown has been recognized for her leadership and has received numerous awards, appointments and honors at local, state, national and international levels, such as being selected as a member of the National Humanities Center Teacher Advisory Council, appointment to serve on the Fort Monroe Authority board of trustees and the Fort Monroe Authority Foundation board of directors, and the Cemetery Board of Trustees, Educational Testing Service visiting research scholar, Educational Testing Service Praxis Psychology Board, Marquis Who’s Who Among American Educators, BRIDGES Friday Center-University of North Carolina System Women in Leadership Fellow, and as a Research Fellow with the Center on Reproductive Rights and Justice, University of California-Berkley’s Law School, to name a few.
