ADVISORY: Council to meet May 15-16 in Richmond; joined by Private College Advisory Board members

RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold its regularly scheduled meeting May 15-16, 2023, at Virginia Union University in Richmond, which included a joint meeting with the leaders of Virginia’s private, nonprofit colleges and universities.

The Council’s Academic Affairs, and Resources and Planning committees will meet May 15 at 1:00 p.m. on the campus of Virginia Union University. Topics include actions on a proposed degree program at a public institution and designated institutions’ progress regarding performance standards.  

In addition, Council will discuss evaluation of duplicative proposed programs and the enrollment projection process. Council will be updated on the higher education budget from the 2023 General Assembly, review of proposals for the Pell Initiative, the 2023 Six-Year Plan process and a staff review of request from three private institutions.

At 3:00 p.m., Council will hold a joint meeting with the Private College Advisory Board, comprised of presidents of the private, not-for-profit colleges and universities in the Commonwealth. 

The full Council will convene for its regular meeting at 9:00 a.m. on May 16. Dr. Hakim Lucas, Virginia Union University's president, will present remarks. Council will discuss priority initiatives for Pathways to Opportunity, the Commonwealth’s higher education strategic plan. In addition, Cardinal Education (formerly the Commonwealth Graduate Engineering Program) will brief Council on its program.
